Fairgrove fire department reports $5,000 DNR grant, trustees approve turnout-gear purchase

N. Maguire of the Fairgrove Fire Department reported at the Feb. 3 meeting that the department completed training on ice rescue and H2S containment, held a mass-casualty exercise with other Tuscola County departments, and presented firefighter awards to Henery, Strasz-Brown and S. Maguire.
Maguire also reported the department received a $5,000 grant from the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Trustees approved a motion to purchase three sets of turnout gear; the motion was moved by R. Thomas, seconded by Harrison and recorded as carried in a roll-call vote with R. Thomas, Harrison and K. Young voting yes.
The department noted ongoing facility issues: ceiling-fan and lighting problems at the fire hall and a generator that is still in the process of being returned. Maguire said the department is continuing work on "safe kids" contracts. The volunteer department requested and was granted permission to use the hall for fish fry fundraisers on March 6, March 13, March 27 and April 3.
