A seventh‑grade swimmer, Brian Brant, told trustees the cancellation cost students months of conditioning, competition and team community, describing the season as an important part of students’ social and athletic lives. He said many teammates trained intensely and that losing the season meant losing opportunities that cannot be recovered.
At least one parent noted the district had pool closures for more than a year and questioned why solutions were not explored earlier. Trustee and audience responses acknowledged the emotional impact of the cancellation; the speakers asked that future decisions reflect student needs as well as budget calculations.
The board did not reverse the cancellation at the meeting; several trustees thanked speakers and asked to review the written timeline that Brandt offered as public record.
