Venture House requested $1.7 million in discretionary capital funding and outlined a $22.6 million plan to renovate and expand its clubhouse on Hyatt Street.
A presenter who identified affiliation with Venture House told the consultation that the organization’s planned buildout would add interior floors and a commercial kitchen configured for their program needs, and that “The cost to build out the space to suit our program needs including the installation of the commercial kitchen as well as added interior floors is $22,600,000.” He said Venture House is seeking a $1,700,000 contribution from the borough president’s office toward that capital total: “We’re asking, the office of the borough president to contribute $1,700,000 to funding and capital funding toward the completion of this project on Hyatt Street.”
Nut graf: Venture House framed the project as necessary to expand service capacity and make the space ADA-compliant so members who take part in on-site vocational and hospitality training can work alongside staff. The organization said expanded facilities and the kitchen would let it operate a restaurant-style training program and scale member employment opportunities in the community.
The presenter said Venture House currently serves members through a clubhouse model in which members take part in daily operations, including food service, and that moving to the new site will increase capacity and improve transportation access. He described ongoing remediation (mold, asbestos) at the planned site and identified external funding as essential to complete the project.
No formal funding decision was announced during the consultation. The session consisted of testimony and questions; the borough president’s office will consider discretionary requests alongside other funding priorities and follow its internal review and award process.
