Edmore council denies request to reinstate cannabis microbusiness license, 6-1

On Nov. 11, 2025, the Edmore Village Council voted 6-1 to deny a request to add a cannabis microbusiness license to the village ordinance. Council member Colburn moved to deny the request from Nate Holmgard; Council member Kanine supported the motion. The roll-call vote was yes from Colburn, Griswold, Kanine, Moore, Pierce and President Chet Guild; Council member McParland voted no.

The ordinance committee had met before the council session to consider whether to restore a microbusiness license that the village previously removed. Village Manager Mark Borden told the council the earlier removal reflected concern that a microbusiness license would permit cannabis cultivation in the downtown district, which the village does not want. The council’s vote formally rejected Holmgard’s request to add the license back into the village ordinance.

The action was a formal denial of the single request; no ordinance text changes were adopted at the meeting. The council handled the procedural motion in public session and recorded the roll-call vote.
