Board approves $8,996.99 Teams-compliant paging system for highway shop communications

The county coordinator (S4) asked the board to approve a one-time $8,996.99 purchase to install a Teams-compliant paging and amplification system for the highway shop and wash bay. He said the existing paging equipment was not compatible with the county’s conversion to Microsoft Teams and described the purchase as a one-time install that would avoid ongoing monthly fees for cell phones.
“Because of that, there is some costs associated with it. So I would be looking for approval today to use, to for $8,996.99,” S4 said. The quote described three paging horns (two in the main shop and one in the wash bay) plus a speaker in the break room; S9 noted the amplification and phone-to-amplifier connection were the costlier parts of the quote.
Board members asked whether a one-way paging system or a two-way device would be purchased and whether cheaper alternatives (issuing cell phones) made sense. S4 said many highway staff do not carry phones while in the shop, and the paging horns and speakers would permit fast emergency notifications and paging without monthly service costs. A board member observed that buying phones would generate ongoing monthly costs and the one-time install would avoid that recurring expense.
A motion to approve the Teams-compliant highway paging system with funding to come from the capital fund was moved and seconded on the record and carried by voice vote.
