Edmore council approves agenda, bills and minutes; resident raises speeding concerns

At its Oct. 13 meeting the Edmore Village Council unanimously approved the meeting agenda, payment of bills and the Sept. 8 meeting minutes and adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
Council member Griswold moved to approve the meeting agenda; Council member McParland supported the motion and the board approved it by voice vote, 7-0. Treasurer Shirley Drain reported the August and September books are closed and balanced. Council member Moore moved to approve payment of bills; the roll-call vote recorded all seven members voting yes. Council member McParland moved to accept the Sept. 8 minutes; Council member Kanine supported the motion and the minutes were approved by voice vote, 7-0. Griswold moved to adjourn later in the meeting; Council member Colburn seconded and the meeting adjourned at 7:52 p.m.
During the public-comment portion of the meeting a resident who lives on South 1st Street said vehicles were traveling well over the posted speed limit and raised concerns about the lack of a dedicated police presence. The council acknowledged the resident’s concerns, said the village currently receives coverage from Home Township, Montcalm County and the Michigan State Police when available but has no standing contracts, and advised the resident to bring the issue to the Home Township meeting for further attention. Village manager Mark Borden confirmed citations will be issued to listed ordinance offenders noted in his report.
Upcoming local committee meetings noted in the record include the Ordinance Committee on Oct. 15 and the Utility Committee on Oct. 23; the next regular council meeting is Nov. 10, 2025.
