Caroline County committee directs staff to probe Masten Pools over suspected unlicensed electrical work

The Caroline County building-permit committee voted to have staff investigate multiple open permits linked to Masten/Mastin pool installations after members raised concerns that electrical work may have been performed without a licensed electrician on the permit. "I'll make a motion that I ask staff to look into whether there's any open permits and more suspected electrical work being done without permits," Committee member (S3) said, and S2 seconded the motion. Chair (S1) called the voice vote and declared, "Motion carries."

Staff (S5/Crystal) told the committee that an electrical contractor listed on several pool permits, Garrett German, had informed the office in July that he was no longer the electrician on those jobs and that, since then, no replacement electrician had been identified on some files. S5 said several Masten/Mastin pool permits remain open and "I would suspect that that's final is because there's an electrical inspection issue with all of them."

The motion—approved without a roll-call tally—directs staff to search for open permits connected to Masten/Mastin, identify any suspected electrical work performed without a properly recorded electrician, and, if confirmed, send a formal letter requesting that the contractor appear before the board. The chair framed the action as an informational and enforcement step, not immediate disciplinary action: "If staff makes that decision, then we just schedule... a meeting," S1 said.

Board members and staff discussed options for follow-up, including calling the trade board or arranging a hearing. S5 noted prior local enforcement work that led to a hearing with trade-board representation ("We had a hearing with Paul Barnes"). The committee did not adopt any immediate suspension of permits during the meeting; instead, members asked staff to compile a list of potentially affected permits and to report back with findings so the board can determine next steps.
