The Village of Fairgrove Council discussed the future of its fire services at the Jan. 5 regular meeting after receiving a report from N. Maguire of the fire department. Council members said that, while township interest in taking over the village fire department was raised, any change in governance would require a formal proposal and a legal review to determine whether an election or other statutory processes would be necessary.
The council recorded the fire department report and noted the active training schedule reported by N. Maguire. Members also heard that the volunteer fire department will host fish fry fundraisers on March 6, March 13, March 27 and April 3, listed as community events by the volunteers.
No formal takeover proposal was presented at the meeting, and the council did not take action to change governance. The council directed that next steps will include requesting a written proposal and seeking legal advice about the process and whether a public vote or other approvals are required before transferring fire services to township control.
