Pahrump tourism coordinator touts trailhead investments as residents press for safety and wayfinding

Janee Reeves, Pahrump tourism coordinator, told commissioners the town’s OHV track and surrounding trails draw year‑round visitors and support local businesses. Reeves said two trailhead projects are undergoing cultural surveys and will include amenities such as restrooms, picnic tables and information kiosks once surveys are complete.
Reeves said Pahrump seeks rental and tour operators to expand tourism opportunities and noted the town’s role as the southern base of the Battle Born Trail. She also offered maps and contact information for follow up.
Public comment that followed focused heavily on safety and access. Maryann Hollis and several local operators raised concerns about proximity of the track to residential areas, dust and possible arsenic in local soils, limited local trauma care requiring airlift to Las Vegas, and the need for trail naming/wayfinding so first responders can locate riders who become lost or injured. Local dealers and operators urged stronger trail management, on‑trail signage and more safety training for riders.
Commissioners and staff noted these concerns and agreed to add safety, trail wayfinding and outreach to future agendas and to consider coordinating with BLM and local emergency responders on signage and communications.
What happens next: staff will track safety and wayfinding as a future agenda topic; Pahrump’s trailhead projects continue cultural review before site amenities are installed.
