School District of Spring Valley board approves property purchase, field grading bid and several staff hires

The School District of Spring Valley board on Sept. 17 approved multiple actions affecting district facilities and staffing.
The board approved purchasing a parcel from Forge Trust Co., CFBO Rebecca Hannack (Pierce County Tax Parcel No. 010-01032-0800) for $250,000 to serve as the site for a new district transportation building. The motion, moved by Board Member Jennelle Wolf and seconded by Monica Shafer, carried on a roll call vote: Wolf (Yes), Shafer (Yes), Schultz (Yes), Vorlicek (Yes), Ford (No), Glaus (Yes), Fritz (Yes).
The board also approved a bid from Todd Bakke for $16,256 to grade the middle/high school practice field, on a motion by Wolf seconded by Ryan Glaus.
Administrators provided routine reports: Principal Nicole Lamb highlighted upcoming elementary events (Footie Fun Run, Grandparents Day and all-school pictures on Sept. 19), noted $5,800 in community donations toward elementary T-shirts, and said students have begun reading and math assessments. Principal Chris Segerstrom reported the district received a Sprout Award for Mrs. Maier’s Farm To Table course and a Peer Review Mentor Grant to support cooperation with the Elmwood and Plum City school districts; he said SV Flex, Youth Apprenticeship and Start College Now programs are growing and that Homecoming is the week of Sept. 29.
The board approved an agreement with the Eau Claire Community Foundation to manage scholarship funds received by the district and accepted the special education Seclusion and Restraint annual report after presentation by Special Education Director Ben Lamb.
The board approved the monthly budget update and discussed referendum project updates, including updated design renderings for the MS/HS remodel. Board members also discussed holding a professional development session to review newly adopted board bylaws.
At 7:41 p.m. the board adjourned to closed session pursuant to Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c). It reconvened at 8:00 p.m. and announced hirings approved in open session: Suzanne Holst (Food Service Dishwasher), Kevin Miller (Custodian), Katie Schneider (Substitute Teacher), Jesse Hayes (Bus Driver) and Ryan Turner (High School Wrestling Head Coach). The board adjourned at 8:01 p.m. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for Oct. 22, 2025 at 6:00 p.m. in the MS/HS library.
