Town Clerk Sandra Regan told the Town Board that the planning board met to review ARC Herkimer’s proposed event center and reported several outstanding questions. The planning board asked whether the Town Board wanted an outside engineer to review the project; Supervisor Dan Casler said if the planning board deems an outside engineer necessary, the town will require it and the decision is up to the planning board.
Clerk Regan also said the planning board asked if the Town Board wants to pursue a tax agreement for the project. Board members discussed the request and agreed to address the question at the next regular meeting. No formal authorization for an outside engineer or tax agreement was adopted at the Aug. 12 meeting; the planning board’s questions and any potential contract or funding implications will return for further consideration.
Why it matters: Large event facilities can carry infrastructure, traffic, and tax implications for the town. The planning board’s decision on whether to commission outside engineering review could affect project timing and the scope of technical information available for local land-use decisions.
