Spring Valley electors approve purchase of 34.265 acres for new bus garage

Spring Valley electors voted Sept. 8 to grant the School District of Spring Valley authority to buy about 34.265 acres in Pierce County for $250,000 and to designate that parcel for a transportation building to house the district's bus operations.
At a special meeting called to order by School Board President Monica Vorlicek, Joan Ford moved and Ryan Glaus seconded a nomination of Stacy Schultz to serve as chairperson for the meeting; the motion carried and Schultz presided as chair. Superintendent John Groh introduced presenters Scott Groholski, a civil engineer with Point of Beginnings, and Jeremy Donath, the district's transportation director, who presented cost estimates and a design map for the proposed sites.
After a public-comment period in which electors were given three minutes each to speak, Chrystal Raleigh moved and Mike Traynor seconded a motion to end discussion and proceed to a ballot vote; the motion carried. Tina Bauer, the district accountant, collected and tabulated ballots and recorded results on an electronic spreadsheet displayed for electors to witness.
Question 1 asked electors to "Grant Authority to Board of Education to Execute and Deliver Purchase Agreement, including all Exhibits thereto, between School District of Spring Valley and Forge Trust Co. CFBO: Rebecca Hannack, to purchase approximately 34.265 acres of Property (Pierce County Tax Parcel No. 010-01032-0800) with a Purchase Price of $250,000, on the terms and conditions stated in the Purchase Agreement consistent with Wis. Stat. § 120.10(5m)." That measure passed 67 YES to 53 NO.
Question 2 asked electors to "Grant Authority to Board of Education to designate the property to be acquired under the Purchase Agreement for a transportation building site and erect a suitable building, being a transportation building, consistent with Wis. Stat. § 120.10(5)." That measure passed 71 YES to 45 NO.
The meeting record shows Chairperson Schultz read each ballot aloud while Tina Bauer entered votes on the spreadsheet. With authority granted by the electors, the board is empowered to execute and deliver the purchase agreement and to designate the parcel for a transportation facility under the cited Wisconsin statutes. The meeting was adjourned at 9:04 p.m. following a motion by Cindy Jenson, seconded by Rob Peterson. The minutes were approved by the board on Sept. 17, 2025.
