Robbins to begin water shutoffs as delinquent accounts are pursued; LIHWAP assistance available

Trustee Michael Collier told the Village of Robbins council Sept. 13 that the water division will begin shutoffs for delinquent accounts and urged residents to seek payment plans or assistance.
Collier read a July billing summary from Ms. Austin showing 1,270 accounts billed for $145,849.14; 745 accounts paid on time for $110,878.67, and penalties totaling $10,301.85 were applied. He said 85 "red notices" were sent to accounts owing more than $1,000 and that the amnesty program has ended.
"Water shutoffs will begin this week," Collier said, and added that residents who have their water turned off can expect at least a 24-hour turnaround for reconnection after meeting requirements. Mr. Ward reported that of 154 accounts owing more than $1,000, 67 had not enrolled in a payment plan.
Residents were told that assistance remains available, including the Low Income Household Water Assistance Program (LIHWAP), which the minutes list with a call center at 800-571-2332 and a web reference to CEDAorg.net/sites; the minutes state a customer may receive a benefit of up to $1,500.
Trustees encouraged residents to contact the village to arrange payment plans before service disruptions. No vote or ordinance was recorded on enforcement changes during the meeting.
