Robbins trustees approve treasurer's report, salt purchase and warrants; mayor highlights $5M grant for Claire Blvd.

The Village of Robbins board approved routine financial items and heard infrastructure updates at its Oct. 24 meeting.
Trustees accepted the September treasurer's report, which showed $455,136.09, on a motion by Trustee Gregory N. Jackson seconded by Trustees Tiffany S. Robinson and Michael Collier Sr. A roll-call vote recorded Trustees Dyson, Maxey, Robinson, Jackson and Collier present; Trustee Thomas Harper Jr. was absent and the motion carried.
The board approved a Midwest Salt quote for $22,396.00 on a motion from Trustee Michael Collier Sr., seconded by Trustee Ernest Maxey Jr., and also approved the September warrant list totaling $66,555.82 after a motion by Trustee Gregory N. Jackson and a second from Trustee David R. Dyson. Roll-call votes for these items likewise recorded Dyson, Maxey, Robinson, Jackson and Collier present, Harper absent; each motion carried.
Mayor Darren E. Bryant reported roughly $1 million in street repairs already completed and said the village had received an executed grant agreement for $5 million for street lighting and improvements on the Claire Blvd. corridor, plus $300,000 for the community center. He also said demolition work has been paused because of personnel and equipment issues and invited residents to sign up for a Nov. 8 trip to Springfield.
During standing committee reports, Trustee Robinson noted recent outreach events and a mammography mobile-van ribbon-cutting. Trustee Collier warned residents of a water break near Claire and Francisco that may cause low pressure. Trustee Maxey reported a discussion of an adjacent-property ordinance at a public property meeting and said a follow-up meeting will be announced.
In public comment several residents raised operational and safety concerns, including requests for rodent spraying on Maxey Court, questions about inconsistent water bills and senior rates, a broken payment slot for water bills, requests for new sidewalks near 137th/Pulaski to Claire, and a complaint from Renita Knockum that her car was shot last October and "no one has done anything about it," referring to police and her housing manager. The board then met briefly in closed session under personnel rules and returned to adjourn later that night.
No ordinances or new spending programs beyond the approved items were enacted during the meeting.
