Town of Gay council signs 2025 SPLOST IGA, amends budget to record GDOT grants and City Hall expense

At 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 9, 2025, the Town of Gay council meeting was called to order by Mayor pro‑tem Tracey Watts. The council unanimously approved an intergovernmental agreement to participate in the 2025 Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), amended the general budget to record recently received Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) grant funds and a City Hall expense that had been omitted, and approved routine financial documents before adjourning at 7:35 p.m.
The actions were taken after a brief presentation and motions during a regularly scheduled meeting. Mayor Christopher J. Walker had attended a meeting with county commissioners and other municipalities and provided the 2025 SPLOST IGA for council review; Mayor pro‑tem Tracey Watts explained the changes the council would consider. Council member Pritchett moved to sign the IGA; Council member Keith seconded. The motion carried by unanimous vote.
Council also addressed an accounting error in the town’s adopted general budget. Officials said GDOT grant funds had been deposited into the general account but the corresponding income and expense line items were left off the budget. The amendment added the missing income and expense lines and also restored a City Hall expense line that had been omitted. Council member Pritchett moved to approve the budget amendments; Council member Keith seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
The council approved the Consent Agenda and then the meeting agenda itself by unanimous votes earlier in the meeting. Later, after discussion that included the City Hall expense line item, Council member Keith moved to approve the town’s financial documents; Council member Pritchett seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
With no further business, Council member Keith moved to adjourn at 7:35 p.m.; Council member Pritchett seconded and the council voted to adjourn. The meeting minutes were signed by Mayor Christopher J. Walker and Clerk Sharon Richmond.
