Town Board approves police hires, promotion, K-9 and Cat-6 cabling upgrade

The Town Board on March 10 approved several police personnel actions and a department technology upgrade recommended by Chief Donald B. Campbell.
Chief Campbell requested authorization to hire Kyle Piaquadio and Stephanie Roper as part-time dispatchers with proposed start dates on or after March 24, 2025, pending required physicals, drug/alcohol testing and fingerprinting. The board approved both hires by recorded votes of 4–0 (Supervisor absent).
The board also approved promotion of Officer Christopher Thompson to the rank of Detective, effective March 31, 2025, with salary in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement. The promotion passed by recorded vote. Two part-time court officers (Ralph Scott and Basheek Collins) were approved pending physicals and fingerprinting.
Chief Campbell reported the department purchased a new detection K-9 named Bandit in memory of retired Deputy Chief Robert Desaye. He said handler training began at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department K-9 Academy and that the department has applied for a 60,000 Explosive Detection canine and is pursuing a Critical Infrastructure Grant. The department completed use-of-force training last month and will hold defensive-tactics training next week; the town also received a drone and is establishing a drone program.
On equipment and IT infrastructure, Chief Campbell presented three quotes for full Cat‑6 cabling replacement across the police department; TKC Cabling submitted the lowest quote at $18,726, which the board approved. The purchase will be charged to the department's seizure account (budget line 3120-5485), not to taxpayers.
All motions related to staffing, promotion and the cabling project passed by recorded vote (4–0; Supervisor Gilbert J. Piaquadio absent).
