Section 5 approves Glendale speed hump; manager reports on streetlights, Leland Court plans and sewer delays
Summary
After neighbor petitions and police observations of speeding, Section 5 voted unanimously to install a speed hump on Glendale Road. The town manager also reported a Pepco streetlight inventory, a Pepco town hall meeting, progress on Leland Court plans subject to WSSC review, ongoing WSSC sewer work and a Dec. 7 bulk trash collection date.
Councilmember Sean Downey reported residents on Glendale Road unanimously supported installing a speed hump after Section police documented speeding and rush-hour cut-through traffic; the council voted unanimously to approve installation and authorized the Town Manager to work with Clark Azar Associates and a contractor to finalize placement and size consistent with County specifications.
Town Manager Ashley Kavanaugh reported she walked the Section with Pepco and completed a streetlight inventory and announced a Pepco virtual Outdoor Lighting Town Hall on Nov. 14 to discuss tariff changes and planned improvements for 2025. She said contract crews from FSM painted traffic striping in areas prioritized by the Chevy Chase Fire Department to preserve emergency access and that Section police will enforce the new striping.
Manager Kavanaugh said Clark Azar Associates provided draft plans for upcoming work on Leland Court; administrators raised minor concerns and will consult Section arborist Dr. Tolbert Feather before resubmitting. She said WSSC review may take several months. Kavanaugh also reported continuing WSSC sewer work on Woodbine Street and Williams Lane, noting particularly troublesome delays on Williams Lane and that the Section is pressing WSSC to finish professionally and promptly.
The manager announced the next bulk trash collection is scheduled for Dec. 7. The minutes record these operational updates but do not provide firm timelines or cost estimates for the speed hump, Leland Court work or WSSC repairs.
