Council hears WWTP completion timetable, seeks meetings with MDE and schedules Planning Commission public hearing

At the Sept. 9 meeting, Council member Lee Adams told council the town's wastewater treatment plant (WWTP) is nearing completion and that an as-built survey is scheduled for Sept. 13, 2024. Adams read last month's WWTP flow figures from the county report (the distributed report was referenced by staff) and said the town has sent a letter to MDE to request a face-to-face meeting about fines and violations associated with the old plant. Adams also said the town is requesting letters of support or consideration from the Deputy Secretary of MDE, the Governor and Senator Hershey regarding those issues.
On planning, Adams said the draft Comprehensive Plan update was sent to the State for review on Aug. 19, 2024. The Planning Commission did not meet in September but will convene in October to review the draft and schedule a public hearing for Nov. 6, 2024.
Other related operational notes in the meeting: a newly installed floating dock by the boat ramp is working well and repairs to docks damaged by basin dredging are complete. Council also heard event and tourism reports including that the Lions Club Car Show drew 613 cars, and a Taste of Chesapeake City event is scheduled for Oct. 5.
