The police chief (speaker 17) said the department has extended an offer to another lateral officer and plans to swear in two newly certified officers next month, with one officer already assigned to field training and another overseeing automated enforcement. The chief highlighted department participation in statewide professional development and singled out Sergeant Spencer White for a Maryland Chiefs of Police exceptional performance award.
Reading the nomination, the chief described how Sergeant White assumed leadership duties during a recent period of unusually high attrition and was credited with helping stabilize the agency. "Please join me in congratulating Sergeant White," the chief said after reading the nomination text.
On a separate matter, Deputy Chief (speaker 18) addressed a fatal motorcycle crash that occurred two days earlier in town and said the Prince George's County Police collision analysis reconstruction unit is leading the investigation. "As far as details of the investigation, we don't have any to disclose," the deputy chief said, and noted the department will coordinate with the motorcycle club planning a candlelight vigil to mitigate traffic impacts.
The department also announced upcoming community engagement events, including ward walks and a Public Safety Day planned for Oct. 11.
