Town updates: contractor work underway, Crestline/Parkway drainage scheduled; a $500,000 state stormwater grant is anticipated

Town staff and the public-works director updated the council on stormwater and roadway work tied to the Chevy Circle restoration and Crestline/Parkway Place storm-drain projects.
Director Raymond said the on-site contractor has installed tree-protection fencing, completed a tree-protection walk with planning staff, and expects erosion- and sediment-control inspections imminently. "Once approved the contractor will begin in-stream activities," Director Raymond said, and he outlined a tentative construction schedule that would begin Aug. 26 and run through late September for the Parkway Place Alleyway and through mid-to-late October for the Chevy Circle Parkway section, weather permitting.
On funding, staff reported that the town is anticipating a $500,000 state stormwater grant linked to the project’s central location but that the grant timing and coverage are not yet confirmed. Director Raymond said the town may track costs and use ARPA funds in the interim while the grant status is determined. A proposal from EcoSight and subcontractors was presented as an initial scope; staff said they could bring a contract forward for council consideration at the Aug. 8 town meeting if the grant and scheduling allow.
Council members asked whether the anticipated grant would cover the estimated $366,000 project cost; staff replied the grant status is unknown and that specific funding decisions will follow once the grant award is formalized.
Next steps: staff will proceed with required inspections, finalize scope and schedule with the contractor, and return to council with funding details once grant award and budget alignment are clear.
