Cheverly Historic District added to National Register; town wins two grants for park and digital access projects

The Town of Cheverly announced on July 11 that the Cheverly Historic District was listed on the National Register of Historic Places effective July 5, 2024, a designation council members said recognizes the community's historic and architectural significance.
Council members thanked staff and volunteers who worked on the nomination. "This has been a long time coming," one council member said, and others noted the inclusion of properties in the Old Fourth Ward that had not been originally considered.
Staff also announced two grant awards. A Chesapeake Bay Trust grant of $50,000 will support planning, design and contracted work for a site on Landover Road. Separately, a Project Restore revitalization grant of $132,000 will fund renovation of space at 6005 Landover Road to create a public technology access center with Wi-Fi and computers for residents.
Officials characterized both grants as infrastructure and community-engagement investments; staff said details on implementation will follow and that some project timelines are in planning or procurement stages.
