Cabot School Board approves salary increases, 2027–28 budget and multiple personnel actions

The Cabot School Board voted unanimously on Oct. 21 to approve a series of compensation and personnel measures and to publish its proposed budget for 2027–2028.
Superintendent Michael Byrd presented an updated certified salary schedule that includes a $1,000 increase to the base for all employees on the certified schedule. "Regardless of the makeup of the money, all employees on the certified salary schedule will receive $1,000," Byrd said, adding the increase will be retroactive to July 1, 2025. The board also approved a 2% increase to classified salary schedules and a 2% increase to the minimum and maximum of administrative ranges; both raises were described as retroactive to July 1, 2025.
The board moved these items en bloc during the action portion of the meeting. Motions carried by 7-0 votes: approval of the certified salary schedule (motion by Marvin Jones, second by James Hertzog), approval of the 2% classified increase (motion by Sally Beebe, second by Joe Trusty), and approval of the administrative salary adjustments (motion by James Hertzog, second by Sally Beebe).
Board members also approved employee disclosures for the 2025–2026 school year. The disclosures presented and approved listed Amber Walker with The Faithful Poppy ($1,000) and Jay Cook with Jaycie Cook ($3,500). The motion to approve disclosures passed 7-0 (motion by Joe Trusty, second by Pam Clem).
In separate action, the board voted 7-0 to approve the district's proposed budget of expenditures for 2027–2028 (motion by James Hertzog, second by Marvin Jones). Superintendent Byrd noted the budget publication is required prior to the election that will consider the budget.
Board President Sarah Owen opened the meeting and the board completed the personnel approvals listed on the agenda, with a final motion approving personnel as presented (motion by Joe Trusty, second by Sally Beebe; passed 7-0).
The decisions take effect as described on board documents; the certified salary increase and classified/admin adjustments were made retroactive to July 1, 2025 where specified. No dissenting votes were recorded.
