Cabot highlights record AP testing, ACT gains and expanded inclusion services

Administrators told the Cabot School Board that the district administered a record 964 AP exams with a 69% success rate, an ACT summer prep course produced score increases for many participants, and the special programs department reported 151 additional IEPs year over year.
District curriculum staff reported several notable results to the Cabot School Board on Sept. 17.
Aaron Randolph said the district administered 964 Advanced Placement exams last year, a record for Cabot; 69% of those exams earned scores of 3, 4 or 5, which are generally considered successful for earning college credit. Alana Graham described a two-week ACT summer program that had 37 junior and senior participants; 25 sat for the July ACT and 17 of those students increased their scores.
On special programs, Haley Beavert and Jessica Saum said the district has trained all general education teachers and new hires on inclusive practices. Beavert reported the special programs department has 151 more Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) than at this time last year, with a total of 1,617 students holding IEPs; all but 73 of those students participate in the regular assessment. The district has eliminated resource as a separate class in grades 7–8 and plans to transition that change into the high school in coming years.
Those items were presented for board information during the curriculum report; no board action was required.
