Cabot School Board approves custodial sale, upholds seven expulsions and OKs personnel slate

The Cabot School Board of Education voted unanimously Oct. 17 to approve a list of custodial-department items for sale and to uphold administrative expulsions for multiple students, and it approved the district's personnel recommendations.
Board President Joe Trusty opened the meeting and the board first approved the consent agenda, including the Sept. 17 minutes and September financials (motion by James Hertzog, second by Corey Williams; passed 6-0). Later, the board approved the sale of custodial-warehouse items via GovDeals and removal of those items from district inventory (motion by Corey Williams, second by James Hertzog; passed 7-0).
On a series of expulsions, the board voted to uphold the administration's recommendation to expel student 4596 for the remainder of the 2024–2025 school year (motion by James Hertzog, second by Marvin Jones; passed 7-0). The board took similar unanimous votes to uphold expulsions for student 5071 (motion by Marvin Jones, second by James Hertzog; passed 7-0), student 4324 (motion by Corey Williams, second by James Hertzog; passed 7-0), student 5620 (motion by Kevin Tipton, second by James Hertzog; passed 7-0), and student 9943 (motion by Sarah Owen, second by Pam Clem; passed 7-0).
Representatives for student 9311 requested a closed appeal hearing. After statements from both sides the board moved into executive session for discussion (motion by Corey Williams, second by James Hertzog; passed 7-0). The board reconvened in public session and voted to expel student 9311 for the remainder of the 2024–2025 school year (motion by Kevin Tipton, second by James Hertzog; passed 7-0).
No public comment was offered during the meeting. The board then voted to approve personnel recommendations as presented (motion by Sarah Owen, second by Marvin Jones; passed 7-0). The personnel packet, included in meeting materials, lists certified and classified resignations, transfers/reassignments, and new hires and states all hires are contingent on completion of licensure and background checks.
The meeting adjourned at 8:44 p.m.
