Cabot board hears summer-program results and facilities updates; pavilion turf, Pre-K work expected before school

District staff reported that the summer reading program served 150 incoming elementary students, about 30 junior-high students attended summer school, and 59 high-school students used credit recovery; facilities updates included pavilion steel in place and turf installation planned for mid-August.
District staff briefed the Cabot School Board on summer instructional programs and construction progress at the July 15 meeting.
Stacy Allen and Alana Graham presented the student-data report: the summer reading program served 150 incoming third- and fourth-grade students at Northside Elementary; about 30 junior-high students participated in a two-week summer school focused on literacy and math; and 59 high-school students participated in credit recovery. The report also noted accelerated summer course offerings in physical education, health, professional communication and computer science at the high-school level.
Michael Byrd provided the buildings-and-grounds update, saying the steel structure of the practice pavilion is in place and turf installation is expected in mid-August. He reported plumbing is about 70% complete at Pre-K North, saferoom walls are going up, roundabouts by Pre-K South should open before school begins, and the Child Development Center is on track for near completion. Drawings for a special-programs addition to the district’s CAO are currently with the state for approval. The packet also notes a fence will be installed between the playground and the bus circle at Northside Elementary.
These updates were presented as informational items; there was no formal board action tied to the curriculum or facilities progress report during the meeting.
