City Manager Richard Newbern led a budget work session during the May 16 meeting and reviewed a draft budget and line items using a distributed PowerPoint.
The council heard reports or requests from multiple agencies: the Airport requested level funding; the Chamber of Commerce requested level funding and proposed increasing the hotel/motel tax to 8%; the Downtown Development Authority (DDA) reported level funding (Mr. Howell, DDA chairman); the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) requested $55,000; and the Library requested level funding. The Recreation Department had no representatives in attendance.
No budget appropriations were adopted at the meeting; the session focused on review and discussion of line items and agency requests.
