Spring Valley Board selects strategic-planning facilitator, approves policy updates and personnel changes

The School District of Spring Valley Board on Dec. 17 approved Howick Associates to facilitate an update to the district's long-range strategic plan and approved several routine governance and personnel items.
Board member Monica Shafer moved and Jennelle Wolf seconded a motion to retain Howick Associates as the Board's strategic planning facilitator; the motion carried. The Board also approved the second reading of policy updates from Neola 34.2 and updates to policy 5430 on class rank and accepted the monthly budget update and referendum project budget report.
Superintendent John Groh presented results from the School Perceptions assessment the district used in October to identify areas of strength and growth. Board discussion focused on priority areas for professional development to address identified needs; the minutes do not record a formal vote on specific professional development actions.
The Board reviewed the school board election schedule for the Spring Election on April 7, 2026, and noted upcoming meetings, including a special joint Village and School Board meeting on Jan. 7, 2026, and the WASB State School Board Convention Jan. 21–23, 2026.
Following a closed session conducted under Wis. Stat. 19.85(1)(c), the Board reconvened and approved several personnel actions. President Monica Vorlicek announced approval of hirings for Dean Fayerweather (substitute teacher), Raeann Traynor (substitute paraprofessional), Trahvell Larson (high school girls wrestling coach) and Gary Thompson (middle school wrestling coach). The Board also accepted the resignation of Suzanne Holst, food-service dishwasher.
