District walks community through public records, transparency portal and response process

Agency official said the forum was intended to let residents ask questions about district transparency and budgeting and then demonstrated the state transparency portal that allows users to view revenue, building‑level expenditures, contracts and certified employee pay. "We're required to have all of our meetings open to the public," the Agency official said, describing which meetings can move into executive session (personnel, students) and what must remain public.

The presenter explained the public‑records workflow: staff must acknowledge or request time within three days; large requests sometimes require redactions (for example, employee FMLA information) and the district may provide partial fulfillment when necessary. "When they're large ones... the biggest cost is gonna be manpower," the Agency official said, adding legal counsel advises requestors who claim inability to pay provide documentation rather than the district setting a fixed threshold.

Residents suggested more frequent, building‑level posts and positive examples to improve community perception. A Community school coordinator (Olga) recommended sharing more concrete examples of classroom and school successes on social channels to complement broader ad campaigns. The presenter said the district can post detailed budgets in each building on request and will continue to publish agendas, minutes, contracts and audits on the transparency page.

The forum concluded with an offer to repeat these community sessions every other month to grow participation and explore additional ways to present budget and contract information to the public.
