Brunswick council votes down motion to place revised city flag on ballot

The City of Brunswick council voted Feb. 24 to defeat a motion to draft a resolution that would have placed a revised city flag design on a ballot referendum.
Assistant City Administrator Jeremy Mose told the council the flag artist had agreed to make the modifications the council requested to the design. Council Member John Caves moved to draft a resolution to refer the revised design to voters; Council Member Jerry Bonanno seconded the motion. After discussion, the motion failed 2-4, with Council Members Brian Sandusky, Eric Smothers, Andy St. John and Daniel Yochelson voting no and Caves and Bonanno voting yes.
The minutes record that the council engaged in “much consideration and discussion” before the vote but do not record the substance of arguments for or against referring the design to a ballot question. No further action on the flag was recorded in the minutes. The meeting adjourned at 7:06 p.m.
