Slinger RDA hears project updates, tourism committee plans; minutes approved

At its Sept. 4 meeting the Slinger Redevelopment Authority approved corrections to prior minutes, received updates on downtown projects including 50-Day Brewing, 119 Kettle Moraine Dr. S and 308 Oak St., and discussed forming a Tourism Committee to administer a room tax; state approval for an addition at 1021 E. Commerce Blvd was also noted.
The Slinger Redevelopment Authority on Sept. 4 approved a correction to the Aug. 7, 2024 minutes and received updates on multiple downtown projects and tourism planning.
The minutes were approved after a motion by Sherry Schaefer, seconded by Dianne Retzlaff, to accept the Aug. 7 minutes with a correction identifying who informed members about the open meetings law. The motion passed.
President Scott Stortz updated members on several work-plan items. He reported that "things are moving along" at 50-Day Brewing and that village staff has spoken with the project’s bank as the developer finalizes financing. He said Mr. Ritger is continuing work on the 119 Kettle Moraine Drive South project consistent with what he presented in August. Stortz also reported that Building Inspector Jeremy Pfeifer informed staff that mechanical systems at the 308 Oak St. project are being installed on schedule and the developer is making solid progress toward completion.
Stortz reviewed the Tourism Committee and room tax created last year to fund tourism and marketing efforts. He said staff is arranging the committee’s initial meeting, targeting late September or mid-October, with the goal of beginning to collect the room tax at the start of the year. Stortz noted the tax would apply to AirBnBs operated by Little Switzerland. He also reported the developer for 1021 E. Commerce Blvd has received state approval for an addition.
Members discussed the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation’s Vibrant Spaces Grant program; Administrator Wilber is scheduled to attend an information webinar on Sept. 13 and will provide more information at a future meeting. The meeting adjourned at 8:23 a.m.
