Councilman Schwartz questions new solid waste contract; council approves award

Councilman Stephen Schwartz raised questions about the dollar amount listed in the borough’s proposed five-year solid waste contract during the Jan. 14 meeting.
Administrator Bonnie Fleming confirmed the amount covers a five-year contract and stated the rate will be $100 per quarter and that the rate is comparable to other nearby municipalities. Mayor Michele Lee added that the contract will not use automated pickup and that pickup times in the borough will remain as they are. Rob Colontrelle of LMR was present to answer technical questions.
Resident Ryan Ward asked why the borough chose to keep bulk pickup. Council members said bulk pickup was retained because residents had requested it and because the prior contract was ending. The council approved the award of the solid waste contract as Resolution 065–2021 on the consent agenda.
