The Crisfield Police Department presented its 2025 annual report to the mayor and council on Feb. 11 and requested approval to spend asset-forfeiture funds on equipment upgrades.
The police chief (speaker 5) told the council the department handled 9,304 calls for service in 2025 and detailed Part I crime figures: two homicides in 2025 (both with arrests), decreases in some crime categories and reductions in overdose incidents. The chief highlighted community programs (RUOK wellness calls to homebound residents, bike rodeo, community policing interactions) and new capabilities (mobile AEDs, trauma packs, NCIC checks from patrol laptops, and a new canine, Zara).
The chief requested use of the forfeiture account to purchase eight Dell Pro 14 laptops to replace aging equipment (~$11,400) and to acquire a lot of four permanently mounted radar units from another department (total lot price quoted at about $1,000). The city's state's attorney and staff confirmed the forfeiture funds were cleared for use; the council approved the purchases by voice vote.
Council members thanked police staff and emphasized recruitment and training will be priorities for 2026. The chief said the department will continue outreach and enforcement programs supported by grant awards and local donations.
