Maryland DNR outlines tide-gate and drainage work for Crisfield marina; bids due March 6

"We're doing the replacement of the bulkhead ... and most importantly for the city, we're installing check valves and the eight drainage pipes running under the marina," Charbonneau said, adding that bids were open and that she expected bids to be due March 6. She said the DNR aims to start construction in late spring or early summer and estimated an approximate 12‑month work timeline, though the schedule will depend on the contractor’s staging decisions.
Council members asked how the recent statutory change making the marina commission a state‑grade authority will affect selection and local input. Charbonneau said DNR will contact the recommended nominees, work to reestablish fisheries and commission participation, and connect Crisfield staff with the DNR engineering and construction team. "I will connect our engineering and construction staff directly with you, mayor," she said, naming Kelly Wright as a contact for the city.
Council members also raised logistics for staging and public events at the city dock. Charbonneau identified Jersey Island as a potential alternate staging site and said she would meet with the Chamber of Commerce and local officials to coordinate how city events and construction staging would be managed.
The mayor thanked DNR for continuing the commitment and emphasized the need for close coordination so local plans — including matching components with Crisfield’s Southern Crisfield flood‑mitigation efforts — remain aligned. Charbonneau said she will follow up with engineering staff and with the marina commission nominees to ensure local stakeholders are informed.
