Ferrysburg council approves consent agenda including bills, easement and one-day trash pickup

Ferrysburg City Council approved its consent agenda at the Feb. 16 meeting, endorsing the Feb. 2 meeting minutes, a bills memo totaling about $116,000, a utility-line easement with Stillwater Capital LLC, a Harbour Transit Multimodal Transportation System Board recommendation of a 0.6 millage rate, and a one-day residential trash pickup on May 16.
Mayor Carlson called for questions before the vote. Council members asked staff about an item in the bills memo related to Mid Michigan Railroad Inc. for Van Wagner signal maintenance and whether the city or railroad is responsible; Craig, city staff, said crossings are the city’s responsibility. Council members also questioned a $59,365 line for BHS insurance; staff explained it covers the city’s buildings, vehicles and liability. On the utility easement, staff said the stormwater line is within the easement and that the DPW will have precise location information once it is buried. On the one-day trash pickup, staff said private streets in some mobile-home parks prevent haulers from entering and residents are required to bring refuse to park entrances; staff said they would look for options to help affected residents.
After brief discussion, council moved, seconded and passed the consent agenda on a roll-call vote.
