Commission approves façade change for downtown offices at 33215 Grand River

The Planning Commission on Feb. 9 approved a previously tabled façade modification for downtown offices located at 33215 Grand River.
Staff introduced the applicants, and Pat Donnelly, the petitioner, presented brick and metal samples and described aiming for colors consistent with the downtown palette. "We've been in Farmington, you know, since 1868," Donnelly said, arguing the selected materials would improve the look of the building and fit with adjacent properties.
Commissioners asked staff and the petitioner about material availability and color matching. The packet identified the property address as 33211, but the petitioner and staff corrected the record to the property address 33215 before the vote.
A commissioner moved to approve the proposed façade modifications, citing compliance with section 35-104 of the zoning ordinance and subject to the conditions in the OHM façade review letter dated Jan. 6, 2026. The motion was supported and approved by voice vote. Staff told the petitioner they could proceed to apply for a building permit after the formal motion passed.
The commission also confirmed staff would update the file to reflect the corrected address and noted samples would be retained for records.
