An Avio representative presented the companys automated stop-sign enforcement program to the Colmar Manor Town Council, saying the firm has installed three poles in town and plans to begin issuing citations by mid-to-late January.
The presenter said the companys pilot data showed roughly 1,400 violations at the three local intersections reviewed, described seeing near-collision behavior while observing an intersection for 30 minutes, and emphasized that the technology is intended to deter dangerous driving rather than create a revenue stream. Avio said citations will be reserved for the most egregious violations and that residents will be able to access a community portal where they can view video of their own cited violation.
The company described a three-pronged approach: collective awareness through town halls and outreach; tech-powered accountability with a back-end portal for officials and residents; and community action and education, including materials in English and Spanish. Avio representatives said they plan to beautify poles with local-art wraps and to reinvest citation revenue into public-safety programs.
Council members asked for numbers and outreach details. Town staff said Avios informational PDFs (English and Spanish) and the presentation video will be posted to the town website this week. The council did not take a formal vote on any ordinance or contract at the meeting; the presentation was informational and staff said ticketing would begin after Avio completes any required operational steps and town staff follow-up.
The council asked that outreach materials be widely shared and requested that staff report back with clear operational details before citation issuance begins.
