Warrensburg — The Warrensburg Arts Commission moved on March 16 to overhaul its Budget Book photo contest by giving the contest a theme and tightening entry rules to streamline judging and printing.
Commissioners Sue Kraus and Melanie Johnson proposed the theme “What’s Your Warrensburg?” to encourage photographers to frame the city from personal perspectives. They recommended keeping entries to photography rather than opening to other media, citing file‑size and formatting constraints. May 30 was suggested as the submission deadline, consistent with past practice.
For outreach, commissioners agreed to target Mid‑Missouri Artists groups, University of Central Missouri art communities and the high school photography class, and to distribute printed fliers around town and promote via social media. Allison Robbins and Melanie Johnson will build a Google submission form and finalize an advertising graphic; Allison will coordinate with Marcy Barnhart at the Visitors Bureau on printing a small run of fliers. The commission discussed a gift‑basket of Warrensburg merchandise as the prize and noted that using select entries for displays at the Visitors Center or City Council Chambers would require additional printing costs.
Commissioners also confirmed the commission will staff a table at the first art walk on April 15 to promote the contest and other commission activities. The item will return for further planning at the Commission’s next meeting on April 20, 2026.
