Spooner council elects Daryl Gabriel as council president, approves committee and board appointments

At its April 15, 2025 reorganization meeting, the Spooner City Council elected Daryl Gabriel as council president, approved committee and board appointments (removing one erroneously listed member), appointed David Olson as Weed Commissioner and named Nick Koverman as representative to several county boards, then adjourned at 5:09 p.m.
Spooner — At a reorganization meeting April 15, 2025, Mayor Gary J. Cuskey called the Spooner City Council to order at 5:00 p.m. and City Clerk Krista J. Lyons-Hartwig administered the Oath of Office to the newly seated and returning councilmembers.
The council voted to approve the slate of committee appointments as presented. Councilmember Daryl Gabriel moved to approve the committee appointments and Councilmember Esa Everroad seconded; the motion was recorded as passed by the council.
In a separate vote to choose council leadership, Councilmember Esa Everroad moved and Jim Dohm seconded a motion to elect Daryl Gabriel as council president. Mayor Gary J. Cuskey called three times for additional nominations; hearing none, the motion passed and Daryl Gabriel was elected council president.
The council considered appointments to several boards and commissions, including the Railroad Park Board and the Plan Commission. Councilmembers noted an error on the published appointments list: Jamie Ingham was shown on the Railroad Park Board roster but there was not an open seat; Jon Alesch, whose term continues and who had been appointed mid-term in 2024, had been mistakenly omitted from the listing. Councilmember John Parker moved, with Antonett Montoya-Oja seconding, to approve appointments for agenda items 8–11 with the removal of Jamie Ingham; the motion passed.
The meeting record shows additional appointments: David Olson was appointed Weed Commissioner; and the council designated Councilmember Nick Koverman as its representative to the Fire District (with the mayor as alternate), to the Washburn County Economic Development Authority, to the Washburn County Transit Commission, and to the Visions Northwest Board. Councilmember Esa Everroad moved and Antonett Montoya-Oja seconded the motion to approve items 12–16; the motion passed.
The council moved to adjourn at 5:09 p.m. after a motion from Drew Lake, seconded by Kurtiss Krueger. The minutes were attested by Mayor Gary J. Cuskey and City Clerk Krista J. Lyons-Hartwig.
The council packet attached to the minutes lists committee assignments, board rosters and term dates for appointed members, including start and projected end dates for each appointment.
