Public commenter urges data-center moratorium as commissioners approve cemetery tree removal and monthly cleaning schedule

During public comment at the June 17 Scott County commissioners meeting, resident Dwayne Wheatley urged the board to impose a moratorium on data-center development in Scott County and to remove tax-increment financing (TIF) designations and the county's TIF Fund. The public-comment item did not result in board action; the request was recorded in the minutes.

Earlier in the meeting Auditor Jennifer Rode Hamelman said the county owed Lisa Canepa five hours' pay for cleaning the Bill Graham County Government Building. The board authorized payment of five hours and instructed Ms. Canepa to clean the building once a month while it is unoccupied (motion by Vice President Randy Julian; second by Adam Bomar). The motion passed unanimously, 3–0.

Superintendent Hall presented bids to remove trees and perform cleanup at Pigeon Roost cemetery. Auditor Hamelman noted there were unappropriated funds in the Cemetery Fund available to cover the work. The board accepted the lowest bid for tree removal and cleanup (motion by Vice President Julian; second by Bomar), approving the project without recorded opposition.

Auditor Hamelman also offered a community announcement wishing good luck to Destiny Campbell, who is competing in the National Archery Competition for Scottsburg High School.

Ending: The public-comment request on data centers and TIFs was recorded but not scheduled for immediate board action; the board approved cemetery maintenance work and a monthly cleaning schedule for the Graham Building.
