Clean Water Partnership says Cheverly stream work nearly complete, plantings set for late November

Olivia Blackwell, outreach lead for the Clean Water Partnership, told the Cheverly Mayor and Council the Chevrolet (Cheverly) stream-restoration project is at the tail end of construction and the team is preparing for final plantings.
The presentation explained that the project—approximately 1,200 linear feet near 63rd Place and Beverley Hills Court—uses green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) techniques such as floodplain grading, rock cross-veins, riffles and native plantings to reduce erosion and improve water quality. Blackwell said the CWP production team includes county and contractor partners, third‑party certifiers and a community-outreach contractor. "We have been very heavily in your community with meetings, site walks and presentations," she said.
Greg Mudd, HDR construction manager for the project, described recent work and the schedule. He said stabilizing floodplain connectivity and installing rock structures were designed to slow flows and lock in riffle/pool sequences that reduce erosion downstream. "The goal is to be done with the stream work by the end of next week," Mudd told the council, and noted the contractor expected several weeks of site cleanup before plantings begin. He added the landscape installer provides a one‑year warranty for plantings; the general contractor will perform five years of post‑construction monitoring for vegetation and functionality, and the program maintains longer‑term monitoring for stream function.
Council members asked specifically about trees, plant survivability and thresholds for treating invasive species. Mudd said the one‑year warranty applies to the landscape installer and that the contractor and engineer will monitor survivability and replant as necessary; he did not have a specific invasive‑treatment threshold and offered to follow up with the ecology team and Low Impact Development Center (LIDC) for details. Resident Leila Riazi asked whether trees were covered by the same monitoring; Mudd confirmed the landscape warranty covers plantings for one year and follow‑up monitoring continues under the contractor's monitoring obligations.
The council requested that staff and consultants provide written follow‑up on invasive‑species management thresholds and the town's contact for long‑term monitoring. The presentation materials and photos will be shared with the town for posting to the municipal website.
