Elementary students participated in STEAM club design projects and hands-on learning; second-graders designed solutions to classroom problems, and first-graders planted and cared for grass projects to learn responsibility. The district staged career day and a "touch-a-truck" event to introduce students to community jobs, and middle- and high-school students participated in clubs and events intended to foster inclusion: the middle- and high-school GSA clubs participated in a district pride parade and staff and students joined a Buffalo parade on June 7.
Staff highlighted community service by the middle school National Honor Society (more than 100 volunteer hours and donations to local food programs), a color run that raised over $12,000 for pediatric cancer research and a donation event that presented $18,000 to a local fund at Roswell Park. The superintendent also described a new senior wall that lists graduating students and their postgraduation plans to recognize varied student pathways.
The superintendent framed these activities under the district's "portrait of a graduate" competencies, asking trustees to consider how events reflected creativity, critical thinking, effective communication, global citizenship, reflection and future focus. Trustees and community members responding in discussion praised the range of programs and thanked the PTA and staff for their work.
