Henderson council recognizes $100 million wastewater upgrades, honors utility staff

The Henderson City Council on June 2 recognized a $100,000,000 investment in major wastewater treatment upgrades and presented a proclamation to the Department of Utility Services. Mayor Romero described the project as a "huge investment" that will keep Henderson at the leading edge of technology and protect drinking water for decades.
Priscilla Howell, director of Utility Services, accepted the proclamation on behalf of staff and thanked the council and project partners. "I call our treatment plant the crown jewel of the city of Henderson," Howell said, and described the complex operations and the many staff involved in engineering and operations for the reclamation facility.
City staff had screened a short video summarizing the upgrades, which emphasized improved reliability, efficiency and compliance with environmental standards and noted that treated water is returned to Lake Mead to protect regional water resources.
No council action was required beyond the proclamation; the meeting proceeded to other agenda items after recognizing the utility team.
