Shawano board sets special electorate meeting Dec. 9 to consider exercising right of first refusal on 20‑acre parcel

The Shawano School District Board on Nov. 11 voted to set a special electorate meeting for Monday, Dec. 9 at 5:00 p.m. to consider exercising a right of first refusal on a 20‑acre parcel formerly tied to the Zingler family. The motion to set the meeting was moved by Bobbie Lemerond and seconded by Tim Renard; the motion carried with votes recorded as "aye." The special meeting is proposed to occur immediately before the regular board meeting that evening.

Superintendent Kurt Krizan explained the district's 1992 agreement with the Zingler family: if the Zinglers receive an offer on the property the district has 60 days to indicate whether it will purchase. The board toured the parcel adjoining the current high‑school baseball fields. No purchase decision was made; the electorate meeting is intended to allow district voters to consider the matter.

At the same meeting the board also discussed facilities‑project next steps related to a recently approved referendum. Jody Andres of Hoffman Planning explained the need for a board signer/approver to participate in biweekly planning meetings; the board discussed appointing Superintendent Krizan or designating a board member. Board members Tim Renard, Frank Kugel, John Arens and Bobbie Lemerond expressed interest in participating in the planning process. Hoffman Planning will form subgroups for design work and report regularly to the board.

The special electorate meeting gives voters the opportunity to decide on land purchase authority; administrators did not present purchase price or financing details at the Nov. 11 meeting.
