Resident warns council that proposed Varner Road data center would strain local water and power

"It is going to take electricity and water from the community as needed," Marilyn said, adding that local power bills are already high and expressing concern that data centers can consume large amounts of utilities in desert communities. She also voiced broader worries about the flow and commercial resale of data handled by large technology firms.
Under the Brown Act, the council did not act on the comment; staff noted public comments are for the record and not subject to immediate action. The council did not respond with a policy change or motion on the Varner Road matter at the meeting.
The council adjourned after announcing upcoming commission and council meeting dates.
