County extends Techport partnership intermediary agreement with Navy through 2031

The county approved Amendment No. 1 to the partnership intermediary agreement (PIA) that continues the collaboration between Saint Mary’s County and naval technology‑transfer partners operating from Techport. Cindy Greb, director of Economic Development, said the PIA — first established in 2021 — has helped programs such as Techbridge accelerate technology transfer, support small businesses and foster industry‑academic collaboration.
Rick Tarr, director of the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division tech transfer office at Patuxent River, described Techport activities that connect program managers with local firms to “lower physical and cultural barriers” for nontraditional firms to participate in the defense industrial base.
The amendment extends the county’s agreement five years, through June 25, 2031, and updates county representatives; commissioners authorized the commission president to execute related documents.
