Seaford honors retirees and awards tenure to teachers at June 2 recognition

Seaford Union Free School District leaders and community members gathered June 2 for a retirement and tenure recognition program that honored long-serving staff and confirmed several teachers for tenure.
Board of Education President Lisa Harper opened the program, saying, “Tonight, we gather together as a Seaford community to celebrate the extraordinary individuals whose dedication, compassion, and unwavering commitment have made a lasting impact on the lives of students and throughout the district.” Her remarks framed the event as both a ceremonial acknowledgment of careers and an opportunity to thank colleagues and families who supported the honorees.
Student board member Matt Hines delivered a student report and reflected on his year serving on the board. “I truly learned so much this year,” Hines said, thanking administrators and trustees for their mentorship as he prepares to leave for the University of Richmond. The student report also noted upcoming senior events, including a senior clap on June 9, prom on June 10 and commencement on June 12 at 6 p.m.
Administrators presented tributes for retirees and new tenure recipients from multiple schools. Speakers highlighted classroom contributions, leadership roles and program work: tributes named teachers and staff such as Anjana Mukherjee, Dave Amorata, Peggy Giamante, John Berry, Anne Marie Motissi and Maura Coughlin and described their years of service, mentorship and instructional or operational contributions. Leaders also recognized tenure recipients at the middle school and elementary levels for work in literacy, special education supports and extracurricular advising.
An administrator described the ceremony’s tokens of appreciation: retirees received commemorative plaques and a crystal apple introduced in June 2023, and those receiving tenure received a green Seaford Pride apple symbolizing growth and continued service.
The program closed with group photos of retirees and tenure recipients alongside board members and administrators and brief closing remarks from the board president and the administration, who reiterated gratitude and district pride.
After the ceremonial portion, the board moved into its regular business agenda.
