Township staff said the agreement continues a long-standing pattern of cooperation with the Navy, EPA and DEP on environmental cleanup and monitoring dating to fuel spills and contamination events in earlier decades. The three wells will be installed on township-owned land across from Park Creek to enable groundwater monitoring that supports remediation planning.
Council moved to authorize the access agreement and approved the authorization by voice vote. Staff said the Navy will install and maintain the wells as required while monitoring continues, and that the monitoring will inform decisions about contamination-management steps.
The access agreement was authorized on the record; staff will finalize paperwork and monitor coordination between the Navy and township public-works staff.
