Newton council approves amended 2025–26 budget and adopts proposed 2026–27 budget in roll-call votes

The Newton Town Council on June 4 held two public hearings — one on amendments to the 2025–26 fiscal-year budget and one on the proposed 2026–27 budget — and took roll-call votes to approve both.

Treasurer Kathryn Rigby reviewed revenues and expenditures through April 2026 and recommended adjustments to reflect grants and multi-year projects. She told the council the CCCOG Center Street project will span two fiscal years and discussed capital spending for pickleball courts.

Mayor Craig Rigby opened the public hearings; no members of the public spoke in either hearing. Councilmember Jed Woodward moved to accept an amended 2025–26 fiscal year budget (the motion text in the minutes records acceptance of an amended fiscal year budget of $110,414). Anzl Rhodes seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Craig Rigby, Steven Jenkins, Anzl Rhodes and Jed Woodward as voting yes; Brandon Taylor was absent. The motion passed.

The council then reviewed the proposed 2026–27 budget (the minutes list proposed revenue of $763,292 and proposed expenses of $774,887). Steven Jenkins moved to accept the proposed 2026–27 budget of $774,887; Anzl Rhodes seconded. The same four councilmembers voted yes and the motion passed.
