The Washington Grove Town Council voted 6-0 on April 13 to forward the draft FY27 town budget and proposed tax rates to the Annual Town Meeting on May 9 for consideration and voting.
Mayor John G. Compton and Treasurer Jean Moyer led council review of budget-line adjustments. Councilors allocated $120,000 for replacement of the hard tennis court, planned to incorporate the full $250,000 state playground grant into the capital improvement plan, and increased the town’s repaving budget from $50,000 to $80,000. The council also allocated additional legal funds in anticipation of expanded attorney review.
The council introduced Ordinance 2026-03, “Adoption of the Town Budget and Tax Rates for FY27,” which was moved and seconded; Treasurer Moyer will propose technical amendments to the ordinance to reflect any adjustments adopted at the Annual Town Meeting. The ordinance requires formal adoption under Maryland law at the town’s annual meeting.
The council’s decision sends the budget package to voters and attendees at the hybrid Annual Town Meeting on May 9, when the council will present the ordinance and accept any motions or amendments from meeting participants.
