Room-tax recipients report on projects; council approves triathlon permit and hears event announcements

At the May 12 Shell Lake City Council meeting, recipients of 2023 room-tax revenue summarized projects funded by those collections and city leaders highlighted upcoming summer events and community programming.
Kaitlin Horsch, Kelsy Schultz, Maureen Hoffman and Mike Decker presented the accomplishments they have achieved and plan to achieve with room-tax revenues received for 2023 collections. Mayor Rowie Hansberger praised the collaboration between Washburn County Tourism and the Shell Lake Chamber and asked the Shell Lake Chamber to consider having a member attend city meetings regularly.
Mary Hemshrot announced the second annual Make Music Spooner - Shell Lake event scheduled for June 21, reviewed last year’s activities and asked Mayor Hansberger to present a proclamation; the mayor agreed. The mayor also announced that Shell Lake has hired four lifeguards for the summer season and reminded residents of the Great Shell Lake Get Together on July 20 and the Walk for the Cure on June 13.
Dan Rayman presented a street-use permit request from the Shell Lake Lions Club for its annual triathlon. Council member Steve Byrd noted that Shell Lake students are being sponsored by the Lions Club and that participant shirts look good. Stephen Smith moved, seconded by Dan Harrington, to approve the permit; the motion carried.
The meeting included routine notices: the Plan Commission will meet May 27 at 1:00 p.m., and the Board of Review is scheduled for June 4 at 10:00 a.m.
